Washoe County School District
Washoe County School District continues the 2023 Facility Modernization Plan (FMP) work in North Valleys community.
Stead Elementary School was built in the 1950s and was identified in the 2023 FMP to be rebuilt due to the aging infrastructure and overcrowding. WCSD Board of Trustees (BOT) approved the design phase activities funding for the rebuild of Stead Elementary School at the February 13, 2024, meeting in the amount of $3.5 million. On November 12, 2024, the BOT approved and awarded this construction project to Clark/Sullivan Construction for $54,254,370. The replacement school will be built on the nearby Silver Dollar Lane property which is owned by WCSD.
Highlights:
- One of the first 2023 FMP projects to be approved.
- Build a brand-new elementary school using the current elementary school prototype model.
- A two-story building with space for over 700 students.
- State-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces, including a STEAM Lab, a media center, group learning spaces, and enhanced classroom spaces.
- Plans are to begin construction in late 2024.
- The scheduled completion date is in the summer of 2026.

NDOT 395 North Valleys Project
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is making improvements to a 4-mile stretch of U.S. 395 from North McCarran Boulevard to Golden Valley Road in northern Nevada. This project will widen U.S. 395 southbound from two to three lanes between North McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road and add sound walls near residential areas.
Lemmon Valley – Spanish Springs Connector Study
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is seeking community input on the draft report of the Lemmon Valley – Spanish Springs Connector study. Please scroll down for a link to the report. In addition, you can watch a short video for more information. This study examines different options for a roadway that would potentially connect the Spanish Springs area to the North Valleys area. The location of the roadway has not yet be determined. Additionally, the study evaluates existing traffic operations and safety issues on Eagle Canyon Drive to identify potential improvements.
